A Sweet Little Two-Player Puzzle

It’s taken a while but this is a game I picked up at UKGE this year.

This is a small box game that’s easy to take with you and doesn’t need a large table space to play. It’s specifically for two players and quite quick.

How to play:

You start with one large bar of chocolate in the centre (not real chocolate…although maybe I could replicate as an edible version…hm). On your turn you ‘cut’ the bar in a straight line across. If your cut results in a piece that is 3 chunks or fewer then you take it. If there are multiple then you can choose which to take. You keep taking turns until all pieces have been taken.

You then score up based on the chunks you took. Each type (e.g. With cashews, with raspberries) scores differently according to the scorecard chosen at the start of the game. Some chunks look blank BUT might actually have a type hidden underneath. You can peek at these as you play to see what you’ve got.

Typically the scoring is either positive (e.g. +2 points per chunk), set based (e.g. A combination of cashew and pistachio chunks gets you +5 points) or negative (e.g. The person with the most orange chunks gets -10).

Verdict:

It’s easy to grasp during your first play. Still challenging to be tactical and work out how to maximise your score. Fast enough you can play a few times. There are quite a lot of different score cards to add variety although I think it’s still a limited filler type game. Hayley (😎 got it and beat me immediately. She also happily played it with a friend on a playdate. It’s not super exciting but a nice enough puzzley game. Maybe improved with actual chocolate alongside…
