I can sum up today’s game in about two sentences, and whether that’s enough to interest you will depend on your taste. Essentially, Uproar! is “Dobble” (or Spot It! in some territories) but with a twist: instead of matching pictures, you’re looking for matching words on the cards. And instead of just shouting out the word, you have to make the sound it describes. So if the matching word is “sad owl,” you need to deliver your most heartbreakingly mournful twit-twoo. If it’s “guitar solo,” you might bust out your best beatbox Hendrix impression.

And that’s basically it, but I actually give this quite a bit of credit and enjoyed it more than regular Dobble for a couple of reasons. First, the extra step of reading the word and then thinking about the noise you’re going to make adds just enough extra brain work to make it feel fresh. Plus, because it involves reading, it’s aimed at a slightly older audience than Dobble, which you can play with very young children.
This one’s small too, but I really like that the cards are square. Purely a personal thing, but I find flat edges so much easier to pick up off the table than round ones.
This is definitely a good game for people starting to become fluid readers.
This isn’t going to win any big industry awards, but if you’re a fan of this style of quick, silly party game and you love Dobble, there’s enough new here to make it worth adding to your collection.
