Game 5 of the “Bailey House Mini Xmas, not quite a marathon but let’s see how we go, Boardgameranza” is “Minecraft Card Game?” (no idea why there is a question mark in the title but whatever) played by myself, Katie, Jack(7) and Toby(4).
“Background washing watch interlude”: Obviously a “dark” wash has just occurred… possibly a “delicates dark wash”. You can also see the new knife block we got for xmas (isn’t being an adult amazing?)… exciting stuff…
Minecraft games have always been popular in our house and luckily they are all so far pretty good (still have Portal Dash sitting waiting to be played at some point).
“Minecraft Card Game?” is a fairly simple card collection store kind of game (think Splendor or Century) but we had a lot of fun playing it.
There are 2 rows one with resources and one with tools.
On your turn, you may do 2 actions out of 3 choices…
1. Take a resource
2. Build a tool
3. Put a card in reserve

As you collect resource cards you can use them to craft tools that then give you points but also special actions you can use to help you or disrupt other players.
Tools as well as a special ability have a point value
You can also put a tool card you cannot craft yet in reserve to stop others from crafting it.
The first to 16 points wins.
It is fairly quick and simple but we all really enjoyed it. It was close at the end, there were a few tactics needed and the special cards such as the TNT block that blows up all the resources adds to the tension.
it is a simple version of something like Splendor but for younger kids, it works super well.
Component quality is good but having the cards be square is a little annoying as getting them all in the right orientation is a nightmare (nitpicking)
It’s been out of print for a while so eBay/marketplace is your best bet. I managed to pick this up for £6 + postage (money well spent). (one on eBay as I write this for £5 with about 15hr left).
Because of the Minecraft theme, it’s also the sort of thing I imagine you would find in charity shops.
Another Minecraft game positive recommendation (even if you don’t care for Minecraft).
