Finally managed to get the boys together today for a little game session and we managed to try out 4 brand-new games. So sadly even though I have not managed to do a proper marathon this year let’s go with…
So game 1 of 4 of the “Bailey Boys penultimate day of the easter holidays let’s cram it all into 1-day mini marathon” is Gelatinous a dice game from Steve Jackson games. Played by myself, Jack(7) and Toby(4).
I have always had a bit of a soft spot for Steve Jackson games. 13 odd years ago when I first started getting into games that weren’t Monopoly I was a particular fan of Munchkin.
Gelatinous is an extremely simple game where the idea is that you have to make a larger cube out of 8 dice on your “beer mat”. Each player start with 7 dice and you roll all of them at the same time. If you roll a 3 you add it to your cube, a 1 gets passed to the player on your left and a 6 to your right.
The first player to complete their cube wins. If everyone runs out of dice everyone loses.
That’s it… literally, that’s it…

If you look at the photo attached of the “beer mat” that’s literally all the rules.
I mean i kinda sorta enjoyed it but it’s not really a game. It’s total luck and there is no strategy or decision-making.
Boys were equally rather meh…
It also was pretty expensive at £20…
The package is nice, the dice are sparkly and you can take it out of the packaging it comes in (which isn’t great) and keep it in the bag it comes with.
It’s definitely not worth spending the money on.
There are better dice games (in fact there are much better dice games coming in this mini marathon). Zombie Dice also from Steve Jackson games is better.
Not much of a recommendation from me I’m afraid.
