Note: This is a short really early legacy review before I started posting longer form review in our Facebook Group.
So the concept of Escape the Curse of the Temple sees each player start in the middle of the temple with 2 other rooms and 5 dice each.
The general game revolves almost entirely around rolling dice (which my boys love). to move from room to room you have to roll the symbols on the tiles. to lay a new tile you have to roll to walking symbols. As you go through the tiles you will eventually draw the exit tile. To get through the exit tile you have to roll the key symbols equal to the number of gems in your cache (we started with 12) plus 1. All of these rolls can be held yahtzee style
In order to make this doable you have to complete tasks to get rid of gems in certain rooms by rolling a certain amount of a symbol (you can do this as a team).
This game is all played in real-time.
There are 2 mechanics however to make it difficult. Firstly if you roll a black mask the dice are locked until you roll a yellow (which unlocks 2 black dice). To make this a little easier for Toby we let him unlock all of his dice with a yellow dice.
Finally, this all has to be done in 10 minutes. The game comes with an audio CD that provides ambience but this sound can easily be found on youtube to make life easier. twice in the game, there is a gong which means you all have to get back into the centre or risk losing a dice.
The time is actually surprisingly tight but it all works well and the boys enjoyed it.
The component quality is fine if nothing special but it is serviceable and does the job.
The game also comes with extras to make it more difficult and complex including curses and treasures.
Overall the boys enjoyed the game but it requires a lot of honesty to work properly and I know Toby(3) was resisting the urge the whole time to reroll a black dice.
