Colorful board game box of "Dragon's Breath" by HABA, featuring playful dragons and a sparkling gem theme, awarded the 2018 Children's Game of the Year.

Dragon’s Breath

Note: This is a short really early legacy review before I started posting longer form review in our Facebook Group.

For our pre-bedtime game, we decided to play something actually designed for children for a change.

Dragon’s Breath won the “Kinderspiel des Jahres” (kids board game of the year) in 2018 and is a family fave.

When you first open the game you think it will be a dexterity game but what it actually is is drafting help your luck game.

The idea is there is a number of rings in the middle with all sorts of coloured gems. You all draft what colour gems you are that round and then you lift a ring. As the gems fall you then get the colours that landed. The skill comes in looking at the pile of gems and working out what colours are most likely to be left.

It’s a fun simple little game that can be used to teach young kids about probability. Both my boys enjoy it although Jack(6) as always with this type of game wants more rules 😛

My only gripe is that it can be very difficult on the blue/green flooring to tell the difference between blue and green gems.

Big thumbs up for this one.
