Connect 4 Blast

My next step in my scary wade into “mainstream stuff you can buy in a toyshop” comes from “Connect 4 Blast” which Jack(7) received for Xmas but we have only just unboxed it. Played with Toby(4).

So the general idea is that you fill all of the connect 4 spaces with blue discs and then “randomly” (which is basically impossible unless you literally close your eyes while doing it) put the yellow and red discs in the top. (we went on to house rule a variant where the player takes turns to fill the game with their colour discs.

You then use the Nerf guns to take turns shooting the targets which pop out and let another disc drop down…. in theory. This is the first big issue. Quite often the dart jams on the disc which means you have to get involved and remove it which kind of takes a bit of the magic away (like 50% of the time).

Even as an adult actually hitting the discs is difficult unless you literally shoot at point-blank range which again takes a bit of the point away.

Finally, there is a random element and on a few occasions someone accidentally won (which no one likes)

Component quality is a mix. The whole thing jamming up aside the guns are proper nerf branded and decent. Actually these are some of the easiest to recock Nerf guns I have ever seen so much so that Toby(4) has since liberated them to use with the components from Catapult Feud (see review below) for an altogether better cross-over game. It all folds up but not in a perfect way but more in a… if this gets bashed about a bit you are gonna lose half the bits out the side kinda way.
