Colorful game tin for "Splash!" featuring playful graphics and a blue splash design, placed on a wooden table surface.

In order to get to the magic “50” before the end of the Summer holidays we are going to need a few days with double posts so here is a quick extra one…

Game 13 of the “Bailey Family Summer 2023 Board Game Bonanza” is “Splash!” played by myself and Jack (8.).

“Splash!” is a stacking dexterity game that kinda plays like a travel mini version of the game “Junk Art” one of my favourite “big box” dexterity games there is. It is also called “Stack Jack” and “Timber” both with a lumberjack theme rather than a water theme in different markets.

Essentially you start by drawing an equal stack of pieces. After placing a piece on top of the stack, you get to give the next player a piece of your choice from your own pile that must be added to the stack. The piece must match the previous colour or shape, but how it gets placed is up to the next player! When the stack comes crashing down, the player who gave the piece gets a gold gem. The first player to collect three gold gems or run out of pieces wins!

It’s a really simple little dexterity game but it’s small (the tin is identical in size to Dobble) and is good fun. Because of the types of pieces, it also is “less mean” than Junk Art can be as it’s much harder to lay a piece and essentially give your opponent an impossible task.

The pieces are wooden and well painted as well which is a nice touch.

There are also a number of other games you can play with the pieces that give the game longevity (hence why the colours aren’t matching in the pics!). To top it all off I bought this in GAME for £2.98 so it was an absolute steal.

Not going to win the Spiel des Jahres but for what it is it’s worth the £2.98 I paid.
