Recto Verso

As we gear up to start our “Halloween Half-term Spooktacular,” I thought I would quickly share a little game that Toby(5) and I played today called “Recto Verso.”

“Recto Verso” is a two-player cooperative puzzle game that requires you to arrange coloured blocks on a grid to create a pattern that matches both sides of your card.

To successfully create the shape, you must use every single block available, which often means hiding and arranging them strategically so that both sides of your card work.

The challenge is that you have to communicate verbally, and you can only see your own card. The cards vary in difficulty, and the challenge is further heightened by a time limit and a few other restrictions introduced along the way, although when playing with younger kids, you can choose to ignore the time limit mechanic.

It’s a fun, light-hearted game that we enjoyed playing. While I wouldn’t say it’s going to be one of our all-time favourites, we would definitely play it again. It offers something a little different from the usual cooperative games we tend to play.
