Lego Heroica: Waldurk

The boys love Lego as much as they love board games so I knew this Summer we had to squeeze in a Lego game so Game 42 of the “Bailey family sorta Summer Board Game Bonanza” is “Lego Heroica: Waldurk” played by myself Jack(7) and Toby(4).

Now the Lego Heroica series actually comprises of 6 games (4 originally then they released a super rare 5th and rarererer 6th one) and these can all be joined together to make larger maps.

The game in itself is a simple dungeon crawler where you roll very cool lego dice to more space and fight monsters.

The first thing is building the map is good fun and the boys enjoyed helping do that. This is where it gets very light. This is pretty simple. and killing monsters is simply a case of hitting or not hitting. There are a few weapons you can obtain to make you stronger but it was not really needed.

The winner is the first person to get to the treasure at the end. I assume this was because this is obviously a mainstream product and the idea of a coop board game might be a bit much for a mainstream toyshop. It can quite happily be played cooperatively though.

There are a few extra mechanics like portals but this is very much the barebones of what a dungeon crawler can be. roll the dice, move the spaces, fight a monster, and roll to see if it hurts you or you kill it. move on.

It’s fine but I think it would have been less fine without the Lego license.

I have only played this one but they are all very similar.

If these d interest you buying them new will cost a small fortune (£100+) but then can be picked up on ebay for a few ££s. The 5th expansion (Ilrion) is also super pricey on ebay floating around the £60 mark and until Jean Deacon pointed it out i didnt even know Ganrash the 6th one existed. There is also a really nice storage box for it all I would have to buy if I wanted all of this and that is also super pricey on ebay.

It is quick though… and that’s a rare thing for a dungeon crawler…

It’s fine as a “my first dungeon crawler” and for massive lego fans there is also the option here to take the system and create your own dungeons but even then the system is fairly weak and doesn’t really give you a solid enough foundation. I was a little disappointed TBH… oh well… at least I don’t have to sell a kidney to buy the rare sets and the cool storage case…
