Knuckling Knights

So last night I found myself with some rare time alone with Toby(4) so I was told to celebrate that he should be allowed to stay up late…

So “Knuckling Knights” was played by me and Toby.

“Knuckling Knights” is a pretty simple “game”. Essentially you build the tower (which is very cool and well made) you then roll dice which denotes how many knights go into a “Royal Rumble” in the castle.

When eventually you roll a shield (or one person is out of knights which seem to happen more than we actually rolled shields) you then pull out the top floor, the knights tumble down, and any that fall into the holes below are eliminated.

At this point the most knights left wins the round and you gain a coin. First to 2 (which seemed a very low amount, so we played to 4) coins wins.

That’s essentially it.

So, to be honest I was a little disappointed. Haba have several games in their “build a castle range” and this is definitely the weakest I have come across. The component quality as always is excellent (even if the insert is terrible) but it just isn’t really a game.

There is absolutely no decision making. You roll the dice, you put in the required knights and eventually they tumble down the castle (which is fun to do) and you get lucky if less of your fall in the hole.

I could see this being fun for kids who are completely new to board games but whilst Toby found it fun he was a little miffed when it was over VERY quickly and there wasn’t more to it.

I am convinced there is a good game somewhere that can be made with this using each and every house rule under the sun. but as it is in its stock form this is a miss that I can’t really recommend. especially for the hardened veteran little gamers many of us have in this group.
