Ghost Fightin’ Treasure Hunters

Ghost Fightin’ Treasure Hunters (or Geister, Geister, Schatzsuchmeister! as my german version says) is a cooperative Ghost fighting game aimed at kids that works as a decent introduction to dungeon crawlers.

I bought this game when I first got into board games many years ago when it won the 2014 Kinderspiel Des Jahres (2014 kids game of the year). At that time I didn’t have kids and vaguely remember playing it. Jack finally questioned why the side of the box was written in “gibberish” (we don’t have many German games) and we were off to the races.

The general premise is you play a group of kids trying to steal treasure (go with it) from a surprisingly underelict haunted mansion.

You roll the dice to move and draw a card to add ghosts to each room. You travel around the mansion trying to gain the gems and killing ghosts to make sure no more than 3 ghosts appear in each room. If they do the room is haunted and it then involves rolling a 6 equivalent to “unhaunt”.

If you have played either of the Zombie Kidz/Teenz series this game plays quite a bit like that with more premium components and without the legacy element. I think in a world where those games exist this is looking a little long in the tooth but the components are of a really high quality the kids loved it.

The boys really enjoyed it and wanted to play it again but this time Jack ran the game and I went and made dinner.

I really want to buy the Creepy Cellar Expansion but it seems to have never been released in the UK and I might have to resort to USA Amazon but that’s gonna cost me £40 odd which is a lot for an expansion.

To sum up a really good game similar to Zombie Kidz/Teenz but with much nicer components. A big hit in our house.
