Captain Wonder Cape is ridiculous, silly nonsense, but I’ve got to be honest, this is actually one of the most enjoyable bits of nonsense I’ve played in a long time.

This is going to be a relatively short review because I can explain quite quickly what it is, how it plays, whether it’s fun, and if it’s worth it. Essentially, in Captain Wonder Cape you are a hamster flying through the air, trying to get your cape, which is basically a toilet roll, as far as possible without it breaking.

You start the game by using the box as a toilet paper dispenser. The game itself comes with a roll of toilet paper, but you can use any roll, so even once you’ve used up the one included, you can just grab another and carry on. You attach the toilet roll to the hamster clip so it can be pulled, and then, sheet by sheet, you slowly pull the paper out of the holder.

How far you move each turn depends on a roll of the dice. The dice tells you how many sheets to pull, with you scoring a point for every sheet you successfully pull out. There are also poo and wee symbols, and if those come up, the other players add poo counters, which are plastic and have a bit of weight to them, making things harder. If you roll a wee icon, players use the pipette to add drops of water to the toilet paper, obviously weakening it further.

You keep going like this, and the winner is the player who manages to pull out the most sheets before their toilet roll breaks.

That’s literally it. But honestly, for what it is, it’s really good fun. The boys absolutely love it, including Henry, and Jack actually took the game to a playdate yesterday so he could play it with his friends, which is something he never does.

You’ll pretty much know straight away if this is something your family is going to enjoy, but we liked it far more than we expected. Is it essential? No. Is it going to win any awards? Definitely not. Is it silly, ridiculous fun? 100%.
