I haven’t written a review in ages! But this week my daughter stumbled across a roll n write I’d found while decluttering and realised she’d be easily capable of. So we gave it a go!
The game is called Black It Out and I got it through a kickstarter for £3 I think years ago as a print and play. It was available online for a while afterwards but now you might have to try contacting the creator via bgg. But…it’d also be easy to make yourself.
There are 20 rounds where you roll 3 die which everyone playing uses. You all have identical sheets with an empty square grid and a key to the ‘pieces’ available. Each round you select two of the die and add their numbers together. You can then draw the corresponding piece on your grid. It has to be touching a previously drawn shape. After 20 rounds, the winner is the one with the fewest gaps.
My daughter enjoyed this and so did I even though it’s simple. It came with multiple designs of player sheets with different shape options. I was also thinking that you could add all sorts of house rules to make it harder like not being able to use the same shape twice in a row or you could even draw your own non-square grid on blank graph paper. For younger kids you could also play it cooperatively and just try to beat your team’s best previous score.
