A game about counting cats, shapes & colours, that keeps getting trickier

Note: This is a short really early legacy review before I started posting longer form review in our Facebook Group.

A fairly quick one this time. game 14 of the “Bailey Family Sorta Summer Board Game Bonanza” is “A game about counting cats, shapes & colours, that keeps getting trickier” played by myself and Jack(7) & Toby(4).

From the same traditionally long titles series as “A game about WEE WHIMSICAL CREATURES and trying to identify them after someone makes noises”, “A game about counting cats’ shapes and colours, that keeps getting trickier” is a fast easy to carry around “budget bag” card game from Bez Shahriari.

The game is really simple but requires more thought than you would expect as it progresses.

With each turn, someone flips over a card. The card backs show uncoloured cats, or scribbled colours. The fronts show 3 cats, coloured in red or purple.

The newly-revealed back tells you what shape(s) or colour to count. First to yell the number and slap the card wins that card, or loses all of the cars they have collected if they were wrong.

What makes the game interesting though is that each card you win has to be factored into your counting in the next round making it progressively harder. The first player to 5 cards wins.

Component quality is what it is. All of the Bez’s budget bag series simply are a deck of cards inside a plastic baggie but as long as you know what you are getting it’s all good. I always like to make my own boxes for them.

While this hasn’t got the same party game laugh-out-loud appeal of “A game about WEE WHIMSICAL CREATURES and trying to identify them after someone makes noises” it is a better actual game and is definitely something that would work super well kept in a bag to whip out in a restaurant or on holiday.

Can be bought on Bez’s website now for £5 and the 2nd edition is coming soon for preorder. – https://stuffbybez.bigcartel.com/
